Help End Endo!March is the International Month of Endometriosis Awareness. Inline with this the Rotary Club of Concord is hosting a High Tea on the 28th March 2021 at Organica Cafe, 43 Majors Bay Road, Concord from 3:30 pm. Our aim is to raise funds and awareness for Endometriosis Australia whilst enjoying delicious food and company. Endometriosis Australia endeavours to increase recognition of endometriosis, provide endometriosis education programs, and help fund endometriosis research. Endometriosis or Endo is a common disease affecting more than 1 in 10 women at some stage in their lives. That's over 830,000 women in Australia alone. Worldwide 176 million women suffer from endometriosis. It is a disease that can begin in the teenage years and can lead to infertility. There is a delay in diagnosis of between 7 and 12 years. This is due to girls and *women normalising symptoms due to the social norms relating to menstrual health. Doctors also normalise symptoms when women do finally seek medical assistance. Early diagnosis and treatment reduce the long term impacts of endometriosis and frequency of invasive treatments and fertility treatments. Endometriosis has a larger impact than just a bad period; it can impact on every aspect of a *woman’s life without any definite answers. Raising awareness is the first step to reducing the delay in diagnosis across all age groups. Education about menstrual health, what is normal and what is not is vital in younger age groups to break the current cycle of delay in diagnosis and flow on effects for the next generation (Ballard, K., Lowtan, K., Wright, J. 2006 & Dessole, M., Benedetto Melis, G., Angioni, S., 2012) So please join us to learn more about this disease and what can be done. A glass of bubbly will be provided on arrival, there will be fine food, a selection of teas & coffee, excellent company and great raffle prizes to win! Registration is required for this event. If you are not able to register via our website please contact President Elect, Connie Day 0410-653-374 (mobile).
Members can register themselves and their guests by clicking the Members button on our event page or the link in their email invitation. Members from other clubs or District can register online via the Members link if you have a ClubRunner account or via the Guest registration link in their email invitation. Cost per person $70 Payment Options Online via our eWay payment portal
Direct Deposit to: The Rotary Club of Concord On the day by cash or card direct to our Treasurer Ken Wright (Registration is still required). |

Women's Community Shelters
Apr 19, 2021
Women’s Community Shelters (WCS) is an Australian charity working directly with local communities to set up crisis accommodation shelters for women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic and family violence. WCS’ ground-breaking funding model brings together business and corporate support, philanthropic investment, Commonwealth and NSW State Government funding and vital local community fundraising to support their head office and network of seven shelters across NSW. "More than one in two women across Australia who seek a bed in a crisis shelter are turned away every night, mostly due to a lack of space. And these are just the ones who find out they can ask for a safe place to go. Women’s Community Shelters works with communities to establish new shelters, which provide short term emergency accommodation and support in a safe environment that enables homeless women to rebuild self-esteem and achieve control and fulfilment of their lives. For a woman to get out of the situation she faces, she needs a range of support services, not just help finding affordable housing. These include access to counselling, health care, assistance to navigate government bureaucracy, legal help, further education and employment to reestablish control over her life." |

Animal Violence & the Human/Animal Connection
May 03, 2021 6:40 pm
Australia has one of the highest rates of animal ownership in the world. Sadly, we also have one of the highest rates of family/domestic violence, too. This means that many animals, who are a part of the family, also become victims when a family is subjected to family/domestic violence. For many people, leaving an animal behind to an uncertain fate is inconceivable. Many victim/survivors report that they delayed leaving a violent home, or returned to a violent home, because there was nowhere safe to care for the animal. As N Taylor and H Fraser explain, for many people who have experienced domestic and family violence, the loving relationship they share with an animal can provide victim/survivors with” the will to live, eat, sleep and keep caring for others, and in the process, maintain the will to rebuild their lives.”* An animal is often the only comfort, defender or friend a victim/survivor has. When we fail to address animal cruelty, we are failing to address human need too. |

Please join us on Monday evening as we recap and review the events of 2020-21, a year with many ups and downs, innovation and experimentation, and introduce our new President, Connie Day and the incoming board for 2021-22. Joining us will be members of Concord's very own female acapello chorus, Aurora Australis. We look forward to having you with us.

Jun 28, 2021 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Although we have postponed our full program of formalitiles and entertainment until later in the year we will take the opportunity tomorrow evening to recognize incoming President Connie Day and the Board of 2021-22. We will also take time to discuss events of the past year, past few days and the changing landscape ahead of us. It is not exactly the evening we had planned and none of us would have imagined after a year of slowly easing restrictions that we would be back in lockdown so swiftly and firmly. Yet I think we all understand the increased importance of halting the spread of the Covid-19 Delta variant. So we will make the most of what we have learnt and what we can do and endeavour to move forward as best we can. We hope you are staying safe and strong and look forward to seeing you on screen tomorrow night. |
