Guest Speaker - John Walters - See It * Say It * Share ItJohn Walters from the Rotary Club of Engadine will be joining us to speak about See It * Say It * Share It, a Rotary project that supports literacy in our First Nations settings using I.R.I.S. - Immersive Reading - Indigenous Support. See it, Say it, Share it takes a fresh approach to supporting indigenous literacy using Immersive Reading and Iconic Reading. Immersive Reading (PAIR) consistently provides children with enhanced literacy opportunities by supporting parents and 'reader' in the 'read aloud' and 'tell aloud' situations. All yarns and factual content are inspired or told by local communities, the literacy scaffolding is designed by early literacy educators and printing costs are supported by local Rotary Clubs. A group of volunteers will be travelling to Collins Beach, Manly on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September to participate in a working bee at an important historical site where the Aboriginal men Colbee and Bennelong were captured by Governor Phillip's men on 25th November 1789 and where Governor Phillip was later speared by Bennelong, in retribution for their abduction, on the 7th September 1790. Take 3 for the Sea
Sep 14, 2020 6:30 pm
Jenny-Lee Scharnboeck Head of Partnerships at Take 3 for the Sea will be joining us as our guest speaker. Wherever we are, we are connected to the sea. The ocean provides us with the oxygen we breathe and the climate that sustains us. We need a healthy ocean for our own survival. Plastic pollution is killing wildlife, devastating oceans and threatening the health of our planet. Plastic represents a disconnection. It’s a material designed to last forever that we often use only once. Poorly managed plastic leaks into the sea. The ocean is downhill from everywhere. Through education that inspires participation, Take 3 is building a global movement of people who are connected to the planet. Jenny-Lee will introduce us to Take 3 for the Sea, the work they have undertaken and impacts achieved over the last decade. Along with ideas on how we can work together in the future! Take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you leave the beach, waterway or…anywhere, and you have made a difference. |

What is Ramen?Ramen is a very popular Japanese noodle soup. Ramen noodles were originally Chinese style noodles but have evolved over the years to have a firm chewy texture. They are served in broth often flavoured with soy sauce or miso and accompanied with toppings such as sliced pork, beef, prawns or chicken. Nearly every region in Japan has its own variation of ramen.

Following yesterday's extreme temperatures and today's PREDICTED HIGHS OF 38 we have decided it is best to CANCEL today's picnic and advise members to remain inside in an airconditioned environment to avoid the extremes expected later today. The current temperature outside has already reached 32/33 and is expected to peak at 38 around 1pm. If you do not have airconditioning it may be advisable to spend the hottest part of the day at a shopping centre, one of our many local clubs or with friends or family who have airconditioning.
Please remember to sanitise your hands, socially distance yourself, follow the COVID rules put in place by each venue and wear a mask as appropriate.

Jan 26, 2021 10:00 am - 11:30 am
As most people know Lamington Drives have traditionally been held in Australia and New Zealand as a means of fundraising. This Australia Day, thanks to Rotary District 9675, instead of distributing lamingtons to raise funds the Rotary Club of Concord along with the Rotary Clubs of Sydney Inner West, Iron Cove and Five Dock will be participating in a Lamington Drop to thank the very valuable and hard working staff and first responders at Concord Hospital, Concord Fire Station and Burwood Police Station for the wonderful work they do keeping our community safe and responding to emergencies. Members from each of our clubs will be meeting on Tues morning to collect and drop 860 lamingtons and coffee vouchers to these wonderful workers. Watch our website and Facebook page for pics of the activity on the day. Volunteers are to meet at 10:00 am at Peter Reynolds house for a COVID briefing and to load lamingtons and banners into vehicles to transport to each drop point. |
