Following yesterday's extreme temperatures and today's PREDICTED HIGHS OF 38 we have decided it is best to CANCEL today's picnic and advise members to remain inside in an airconditioned environment to avoid the extremes expected later today. The current temperature outside has already reached 32/33 and is expected to peak at 38 around 1pm. If you do not have airconditioning it may be advisable to spend the hottest part of the day at a shopping centre, one of our many local clubs or with friends or family who have airconditioning.
Please remember to sanitise your hands, socially distance yourself, follow the COVID rules put in place by each venue and wear a mask as appropriate.

As most people know Lamington Drives have traditionally been held in Australia and New Zealand as a means of fundraising. This Australia Day, thanks to Rotary District 9675, instead of distributing lamingtons to raise funds the Rotary Club of Concord along with the Rotary Clubs of Sydney Inner West, Iron Cove and Five Dock will be participating in a Lamington Drop to thank the very valuable and hard working staff and first responders at Concord Hospital, Concord Fire Station and Burwood Police Station for the wonderful work they do keeping our community safe and responding to emergencies. Members from each of our clubs will be meeting on Tues morning to collect and drop 860 lamingtons and coffee vouchers to these wonderful workers. Watch our website and Facebook page for pics of the activity on the day. Volunteers are to meet at 10:00 am at Peter Reynolds house for a COVID briefing and to load lamingtons and banners into vehicles to transport to each drop point. |

Help End Endo!March is the International Month of Endometriosis Awareness. Inline with this the Rotary Club of Concord is hosting a High Tea on the 28th March 2021 at Organica Cafe, 43 Majors Bay Road, Concord from 3:30 pm. Our aim is to raise funds and awareness for Endometriosis Australia whilst enjoying delicious food and company. Endometriosis Australia endeavours to increase recognition of endometriosis, provide endometriosis education programs, and help fund endometriosis research. Endometriosis or Endo is a common disease affecting more than 1 in 10 women at some stage in their lives. That's over 830,000 women in Australia alone. Worldwide 176 million women suffer from endometriosis. It is a disease that can begin in the teenage years and can lead to infertility. There is a delay in diagnosis of between 7 and 12 years. This is due to girls and *women normalising symptoms due to the social norms relating to menstrual health. Doctors also normalise symptoms when women do finally seek medical assistance. Early diagnosis and treatment reduce the long term impacts of endometriosis and frequency of invasive treatments and fertility treatments. Endometriosis has a larger impact than just a bad period; it can impact on every aspect of a *woman’s life without any definite answers. Raising awareness is the first step to reducing the delay in diagnosis across all age groups. Education about menstrual health, what is normal and what is not is vital in younger age groups to break the current cycle of delay in diagnosis and flow on effects for the next generation (Ballard, K., Lowtan, K., Wright, J. 2006 & Dessole, M., Benedetto Melis, G., Angioni, S., 2012) So please join us to learn more about this disease and what can be done. A glass of bubbly will be provided on arrival, there will be fine food, a selection of teas & coffee, excellent company and great raffle prizes to win! Registration is required for this event. If you are not able to register via our website please contact President Elect, Connie Day 0410-653-374 (mobile).
Members can register themselves and their guests by clicking the Members button on our event page or the link in their email invitation. Women's Community Shelters
Apr 19, 2021
Women’s Community Shelters (WCS) is an Australian charity working directly with local communities to set up crisis accommodation shelters for women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic and family violence. WCS’ ground-breaking funding model brings together business and corporate support, philanthropic investment, Commonwealth and NSW State Government funding and vital local community fundraising to support their head office and network of seven shelters across NSW. "More than one in two women across Australia who seek a bed in a crisis shelter are turned away every night, mostly due to a lack of space. And these are just the ones who find out they can ask for a safe place to go. Women’s Community Shelters works with communities to establish new shelters, which provide short term emergency accommodation and support in a safe environment that enables homeless women to rebuild self-esteem and achieve control and fulfilment of their lives. For a woman to get out of the situation she faces, she needs a range of support services, not just help finding affordable housing. These include access to counselling, health care, assistance to navigate government bureaucracy, legal help, further education and employment to reestablish control over her life." |
